PANJIM: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Sunday launched a four-year integrated BSc and BEd degree course at the Ganpat Parsekar College of Education run by the Harmal Panchkroshi Shikshan Mandal, of which he is the Chairman.
Speaking to media persons on the new integrated course, Parsekar said, “This course is different from a BSc and BEd degree since for a person with a normal BEd, they are trained for one year but here they are not only trained but nurtured for four years. Secondly, NCERT has discontinued the one year BEd course and replaced with a two year course. With this integrated course, you’re actually saving one year of doing three years of BSc and two years of BEd.”
The four-year integrated programme aims at integrating general studies comprising social sciences or humanities or science and professional studies comprising foundations of education, pedagogy of school subjects, and practicum related to the tasks and functions of a school teacher for the BSc, BEd programme.
Parsekar also said that beginning the next academic year (2016-17) the course would be monitored centrally thereby requiring applicants to apply based on a common entrance test.
“This academic year, since many have already applied to other colleges, we have decided that starting next year, applications for the course will be monitored centrally and seats will be awarded to students based on a common entrance selected by the Department of Education,” he said.
Eligibility for admission to the course is for a person to have passed the HSSCE of Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education or any other examination recognized as equivalent by the Goa University with a minimum percentage of 50 per cent.
