Vasco: Tensed moments were witnessed at Driver Hill area, Vasco on late Wednesday night after residents suspected that a group of seven persons who had reportedly arrived from Karnataka via a goods train went to the Railway quarters at Driver Hill.
The residents claimed that a person named Khaled who is employed with the South Western Railways and stays at the railways quarters, allowed seven persons who reportedly come from Karnataka via goods train from Hubli into the quarters.
When locals learnt about this, they rushed to the site and raised strong objections. Sensing the tense situation, Khaled reportedly allowed the seven to escape. The cell phones of all the seven were also switched off.
Later when Vasco Railway Station Master, Ramdas Gudemani was informed about the incident, he expressed shock and said he was unaware about the same.
He however said that the station was secured by the Railway police force and the trains that move their staff from Vasco to areas like Castle Rock are accompanied by the RPF.
Gudemani also assured more security personel would be posted at the Vasco Railway station and the overbridge to avoid such incidents.
When contacted, Khaled denied people were coming from neighbouring states and said that the people who had arrived were railway employees and some of them were locals from Ponda.
Meanwhile, residents said their locality has become more vulnerable due to the labour influx who arrive by goods trains and enter the Driver Hill area directly from the railway overbridge.
