MAPUSA: Anjuna Police on Monday arrested seven persons including five tourists in connection with the death of parking attendant Sagar Shripad Naik.
Those arrested include Muni Venkatesh Narappa, 44-year-old M Subramanya, 20-year-old Varun Kumar, 19-year-old Tejas Subramanya and 26-year-old S R Chethan, all from Bengaluru, Karnataka under Section 302 r/w 34 of the IPC.
However, based on a counter complaint, two locals Gitesh Chimulkar and Sarvesh Haldankar have been arrested for attacking the tourists.
The five tourists, who were produced before the Mapusa JMFC, were remanded to four-day police custody while Gitesh and Sarvesh were remanded to two-day police custody.
Of the five tourists, Muni Venkatesh Narappa, the driver of the vehicle, who sustained injuries, is undergoing treatment in the Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim.
It may be recalled that last week Sagar, a pay parking attendant was assaulted by a group of tourists as they allegedly refused to pay the parking fee. They had fled but were detained by the police along the Goa-Karnataka border at Polem. People present at the spot shifted Sagar to the nearby private hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him brought dead.
The post-mortem report on Saturday revealed that Sagar died due to myocardial infarction.
