PANJIM: Seven nominations were filed on Monday, for the panchayat by-elections to be held in the State on June 23.
According to the State Election Commission (SEC), two nominations were filed for ward X (Reserved for SC) of Socorro panchayat, one nomination was filed for ward VII (reserved for women) for Cundaim panchayat, one nomination for ward I (general) of Volvoi panchayat, ward number I (general) of Borim panchayat, one nomination for ward V (reserved for ST women) of Rachol panchayat and two nominations were filed for ward no II (reserved for women) in Seraulim panchayat.
For Benaulim Zilla Panchayat (ZP) bypoll, which is reserved for other backward class (OBC) candidates, no nomination has been filed yet.
The total number of nominations filed for the by-elections so far has gone up to 14.
The process of filing nomination papers started on June 5 however, no nominations were filed on that day. Two nominations were filed on June 6, two on June 7 and three were filed on June 8. The last date to file nominations is June 12 from 10 am to 1 pm. The scrutiny will be held on June 13 from 10 am onwards till it is completed, while withdrawals will be allowed on June 14 from 10 am to 2 pm.
The polling will be held on June 23 from 8 am to 5 pm. The voting will be held by using ballot papers, according to the SEC.
