PANJIM: The suspended Industrial Training Institute (ITI) instructor K Henry Daniel has been sentenced to seven years in jail for accepting bribe. The Additional Sessions Court on Friday pronounced the quantum of sentence, two days after convicting him of the offence registered under Prevention of Corruption Act.
During the arguments on quantum of punishment on Thursday, the prosecution had demanded maximum punishment alleging that he is a habitual offender, whereas the advocate for the accused pleaded for leniency citing that he would be deprived of retirement benefits if his punishment is stringent.
Henry was arrested while accepting Rs 1,500 bribe from Santosh Kittli of Vasco who had approached the instructor for admissions at the institute. The instructor is also charged with demanding another Rs 25,000 to enroll the complainant as peon in a government department.
