VASCO: In a tragic incident, a 70-year-old woman was murdered and found lying in a pool of blood at Pixem Dongri in Kharewado at Vasco on Sunday.
According to the police sources, the deceased Gayatri Marathe, who was living alone in the house, was found dead with throat slit.
The incident came to light after a girl visited her house and found the elderly woman lying in a pool of blood. She informed the neighbours who in turn informed the Vasco Police.
Harish Verenkar, nephew of the deceased, said, “She would live alone in the house and come to our house once in a few days or once in a month.”
Verenkar said when he got a call that someone had stabbed her with a knife, he rushed to the spot.
“After I came here, I saw that she was dead and the knife was also lying there in the house. We are not sure who killed her and what was the motive behind the incident. We are not even sure if there was some robbery attempt,” Verenkar said.
Shilpa Patil, a neighbour said, “There are two doors in the house. I had visited her house at around 11 am. However, when I came in the evening, the doors were open and I was shocked to see her. My elder sister used to work at her place. My father had told me to keep a watch on her as she was a senior citizen and staying alone.”
