AGONDA: After completing their incubation period, 75 hatchlings from two Olive Ridley nests were safely released into the sea during the early hours of Wednesday night, at Agonda Beach. Despite expectations of 102 hatchlings from both nests, only 75 were successfully hatched.
Rajesh Naik, the head of the Turtle Conservation Centre established by the Forest Department, confirmed the safe release and reported that a total of 48 turtles had laid eggs, all of which are currently under vigilant protection.

“We have approximately thousands of eggs spread across 46 nests, anticipated to hatch in the upcoming days. Our dedicated workers at the conservation center are closely monitoring the incubation process,” Naik stated.
Comparatively, last year witnessed 59 turtles laying 3886 eggs at Agonda Beach, whereas this year, approximately 48 turtles have contributed to around 2130 eggs.
Concerns have risen among locals regarding the increasing popularity of the beach in recent years, leading to crowding that disrupts the nesting turtles and their incubation process.
