764 MT ore at 316 sites: Mines dept

PANJIM: The Mining department Wednesday declared that there are around 764 metric tonnes of ore at 316 sites in the State in information released on its website.

PANJIM: The Mining department Wednesday declared that there are around 764 metric tonnes of ore at 316 sites in the State in information released on its website.
According to information some of the dumps are within the lease area and some are outside and involve all big names in the mining industry including some mentioned in the justice MB Shah Commission of Inquiry into illegal mining. The government was involved in identifying the various areas where the dumps are placed with areas where they were not registered the government had formulated a land use policy.
The State is trying to get its act together to satisfy the apex court of its intentions as far as supervision of the mining industry in the State is concerned with various organisations being asked to look into various aspects of the mining industry in the State including capping limits and carrying limits of the infrastructure.
The court had appointed a committee to oversee the e-auction of ore that was at stockyards that included Dr U V Singh. The committee has already visited the State and the final reports are expected in February after which the final decision should be taken by the court ~ probably around March.
