PANJIM: The Electricity department is operating under duress due to a severe shortage of line helpers and lineman. Approximately 300-odd post are vacant. In all almost 775 departmental posts are to be filled.
Goa Electricity Department in their business plan 2019-20, 2021-22 submitted before the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) has admitted staff shortage at different ranks. Currently the total employee strength of the department is 7113 of which 594 are contractual employees.
The posts those of assistant engineers, junior engineers, lineman, line helpers, accountant, head clerk, meter and wireless mechanic, meter tester, meter reader, clerical staff, welder, driver, peon, watchman, etc, are vacant.
“Highest numbers of Lineman/wireman and line helpers are required in proportion to the no. of consumers and area,” the department has said.
The department, however, has not mentioned as by when these posts will be filled.
