PublicWorks Department Minister Ramakrishna Dhavalikar said that the state government had decided to have all state national highways as four lanes and in that the national highway road from Old Goa to Panjim would have a special motorcyclist lane only, as a pilot project. “This is basically an effort to see whether having separate lane would help in reducing road accidents involving two-wheelers,” he said.
Dhavalikar said the project would cost Rs 103 crore which would be spent by the State government and is trying to complete the project within six months. “We were initially aiming to complete the road before exposition of the relics of St Francis Xavier in November,” he said.
Minister also said that though the four-laning will not have any major impact on the houses located on the either side, there are nine families that would be affected and government has already planned to rehabilitate them.
