8 test positive in Ponda; tally of cases rises to 40

Cops clueless on infection and its source

PONDA: Eight COVID positive  cases were detected in Ponda on Sunday taking the tally of cases to 40.

Majority of the cases detected include policemen and their relatives.

However, the men in khaki have no clues as to how they have been infected and the source of infection.

According to some policemen, the COVID cases may have spread from Sanquelim staff, while others suspect it may be due to Verna Police transferred to Ponda. Due to rising cases the Ponda Police Station has already been shut for public except for important cases. The policemen are now worried about their families and children.

It may be recalled that  week gone by began with three positive cases followed by 15 the next day. On the following day, two cases were detected and on Saturday 12 cases. On Sunday, eight persons tested positive at Ponda Sub District Hospital which include one PSI and constable attached to Ponda Police Station.  The latest cases have caused panic among policemen as among the 40 cases most of them are policemen and their relatives.
