8 yrs later, police act on 80-year-old’s complaint

Register FIR against Chodan-Madel panchayat officials and another couple for illegally taking possession of woman’s house

PANJIM: Old Goa police have booked some officials from Chodan-Madel panchayat, nearly eight years after an 80-year-old lodged a complaint against her neighbours and the panchayat for illegally taking possession of her house.

Francisca Pereira had accused a husband-wife duo of cheating, forging documents and trespassing into her property in connivance with officials of Chodan-Madel panchayat. She had also alleged that the accused resorted to ‘dadagiri’ and ‘goondagiri’ to keep her away from her own house.

After several attempts to ensure registration of her complaint, NGO Hope Foundation intervened in the matter to ensure justice. On Wednesday, the Old Goa police registered the complaint.

The Old Goa police have registered an FIR under sections 465 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (using as genuine a forged document), 418 (cheating with knowledge that wrongful loss may ensue to person whose interest offender is bound to protect), 448 (house trespass), 451 (house-trespass in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment) and 34 (common intention) of Indian Penal Code.

Addressing a press conference at Azad Maidan, the victim accompanied by NGO Director Inacio Dominick Pereira said the battle is prolonged and she will fight till she gets her home back.

Pereira alleged that the police attempted to shield the corrupt by asking irrelevant documents from her but intervention of some senior officials worked and finally the FIR was filed.
