According to sources in Canacona police station the details and the files of the concerned incident were in the possession of the PSI, who had accompanied the mortal remains for autopsy at Hospicio hospital, Margao and so were not available.
However, locals in the area said the accident was due to stray cattle as on Wednesday too, one Vishal Naik of Polem who was driving in his car at night, rammed into a cow that had squatted in the middle of the road near this accident prone zone. Vishal’s car was damaged while he escaped unhurt; the bovine however died of injuries.
This stretch of road is broad, straight and motorists tend to drive at high speeds and fatal accidents are a common site here. The speed breakers with the warning signs have failed to curb the number of accidents and bovines sitting in the middle of the road add to the danger.
