PANJIM: As many as 800 traffic police personnel will be deployed across the State in view of the festive season, Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Akshat Kaushal said.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Kaushal said around 800 police personnel would be deployed across the state in view of the festive season of Christmas and New Year.
“All PIs and DySPs will remain on the field. We have made arrangements for extra staff so that they could be deployed if required. Efforts are being made to minimise traffic violations. Those, who drive vehicles without wearing a helmet or indulge in drink and drive will be dealth with,” the police officer said.
“We have made special arrangements for Sunburn as well. We are in constant touch with the organisers. We are taking their help in deploying volunteers. We are in touch with them to put up traffic signages and parking lots so that people face minimum inconvenience,” the SP said.
Kaushal said the task force set up by the State government to come up with solutions to Goa’s high rate of road accidents, has become fully operational. The task force met earlier this week to review these recommendations, he said.
Speaking about traffic arrangements made in Calangute in view of the festive season, he said vehicles from Porvorim proceeding towards Calangute, on reaching near St Alex Church, will be diverted towards St Anthony Chapel St Joseph School-Baga Circle (Calangute).
The road from Baga Circle (Calangute) towards Baga Beach will be ‘One way’ and no vehicle will be allowed from Baga Beach side towards Calangute.
The police officer said all vehicles proceeding from Baga/Tito’s will exit from Government Primary School junction (CCD Junction) or from new Baga Bridge towards Arpora for their onward journey.
No vehicles will be allowed to proceed from Agarwada Junction road towards Government Primary School Junction, he said, adding no vehicles will be allowed to proceed from Our Lady of Piety Chapel Junction towards Prabhuwada Junction.
Vehicles coming to Baga will be parked on the GTDC Ground, Baga and in the field (Sahani Property) before the new Baga Bridge and will exit from Baga Bridge towards Arpora – Anjuna side to their respective destinations.
The road from St Anthony Chapel towards Mira Hotel up to Baga Circle will be made ‘One Way’.
No vehicles will be allowed to proceed from Baga Circle towards Mira Hotel/towards St. Anthony Chapel, Calangute.
The road from Jack Sequeira junction towards St Alex Church via the Post Office will be ‘one way’.
The road from Neelam Glitz Resort to Dharwadkar Hospital Junction and Tito’s Lane to Snow Park will be one way.
Tourist buses proceeding from Panjim/Porvorim to Calangute will be diverted from Dolphin Circle opp.
St Alex Church Calangute towards Bodkevad parking lot (field), about 300 meters from Dolphin circle and in the open space adjacent to Calangute Police Station about 700 metres from Dolphin Circle.
