PANJIM: A total of 849 cases were registered from the State of Goa before the Consumer Commissions in the last three years.
This information was given by Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ashwini Kumar Choubey in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
As per the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, there’s a three tier quasi-judicial mechanism – District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDR), State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (SCDR) and National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDR), where consumers can file consumer complaints for redressal.
When it came to the State of Goa, a total of 364 cases were filed before the NCDR and SCDR between 2018 and 2020 while a total of 482 complaints were filed before the DCDR in the same period of time.
Goa is ranked at 25th among 37 States and Union Territories in terms of highest number of cases.
