87 farmers felicitated at Krishi Melava

PANJIM:  Porvorim Yuva Welfare Trust (PYWT) spearheaded by local MLA Rohan Khaunte concluded the daylong Krishi Melava held at Carrem Vaddem, Porvorim. 
The event intended to encourage and support local farmers by helping them connect directly with the consumers. 
Several sessions, informative talks by experts were also organised to help farmers understand the new advancement in the agricultural sector. 87 farmers from different parts of Porvorim were felicitated for their immense contribution towards farming. 
Government departments, farmers’ clubs of Porvorim, Self Help Groups, farm companies and others participated by setting up their stalls, selling farm-related products to the visitors. 
Expert talks were delivered by Dr Shilpa Bhosle – Asst Professor, Dempo College of Arts and Science and Raghunath Joshi, Zonal Agriculture Officer, Mapusa. 
 “We organised the Melava in Carrem Vaddem to showcase our progress as we began this agri revolution in the same place more than a decade ago. In Porvorim, we are creating a sustainable ecosystem that helps farmers learn new techniques to increase yield and get a fair price for their hard work”, said Rohan Khaunte, Porvorim MLA and promoter of Krishi Melava. 
Khaunte assured that he would expose the illegalities by Socorro sarpanch and others. 
“Justice will be given to people in due course of time”, Khaunte added. 
The MLA also inaugurated the improvements done to various nullahs in fields of Socorro village in Porvorim in the presence of ZP members, Gupesh Naik, Vaishali Satardekar, sarpanch Gurunath Vernekar and Sandeep Salgaonkar and local representatives. 
Sanjay Pednekar, panch who comes from a farming background extended his gratitude to Khaunte for choosing Carrem Vaddem for the Melava and showing Goans the development that has taken place in the village. 
“Projects amounting to over Rs 15 crore were initiated and completed in our village and the credit goes to our MLA who has constantly tried to address farmers’ concerns,” Pednekar said.
