About 87 government servants at Government office complex in Canacona have been served with a show-cause notice, after they were accused of failing on attend the Republic Day flag hoisting ceremony at the complex.
According to reliable sources, Canacona Mamlatdar and Magistrate Chandrakant Shetkar issued the show cause notice on Thursday seeking explanation from the staff for remaining absent for the nation’s 62nd Republic Day celebrations at the government office complex.
Sources further informed that a day before Republic Day, Canacona mamlatdar issued a circular asking all the staff to remain present for the unfurling of national flag by WRD Minister Philip Neri Rodrigues at 8.45 am on Wednesday.
Accordingly, an attendance register was kept on the day for the staff to sign and those who did not signed the register on Wednesday are issued with show-cause notice, informed an official.
Sources further informed that some staff reportedly maintained that they had attended the flag hoisting ceremony somewhere else in the State. However, the Canacona Mamlatdar is not ready to accept the explanation and reportedly asked to produce a certificate of such attendance from the concerned authorities.
A few staff speaking on condition of anonymity informed that CCS conduct rules doesn’t mention anywhere for producing attendance certificate from the concerned authorities wherever the government servant attended the flag hoisting, but has to compulsorily attend the tri-colour unfurling on national days anywhere in the country.
Still some other staff reportedly took the excuse that they were present for the flag hoisting ceremony but left without signing the register due to the rush of other staff.
