88 houses damaged in Pernem

PERNEM: While last year a family of 21 at Ibrampur had become homeless after their old house came down crashing due to waterlogging, when water level raised, this year too the villagers witnessed flood like situation however no house collapse incident was reported.

Parts of Ibrampur, Chandel, Bailpur, Khutwal, Alorna, Talarna besides other villages of Pernem witnessed flood like situation however this time, it were the farmers who faced the brunt due to rise in water level which destroyed their paddy crop and plantations causing them losses in lakhs of rupees.

For the last three consecutive years, especially farmers are suffering as the releasing of water from the dams leading to water logging into their fields and also the houses of villagers, forcing them to leave their homes and settling back after a couple of days. This year 88 houses were damaged and 8 persons were evacuated in Pernem taluka.

When the Herald team visited the flood affected villages of Pernem and met the affected farmers and people, they claimed that they have very less hopes from the government since till date they haven’t received any help for their losses.

“We work hard throughout the year for plantation to grow and make some money during the festival time. Similar to the last two years, this year too this calamity has occurred right before the festive season and has destroyed everything. We haven’t received any compensation from the government for the last two years”, Gawas, a farmer from Ibrampur, said.
