9 from Goa who attended religious meet identified

Health authorities appeal to all who were present for the Delhi event to contact the Department

PANJIM: After Central government directed all States and Union Territories to identify persons who attended a Muslim religious congregation at Nizamuddin, Delhi last month, Goa Police identified and handed over to Directorate Health Services (DHS) nine persons, hailing from different parts of the State.

DHS, on its part, has appealed to all those who attended the massive gathering to report or contact the department at 0832-2225538/2421810 or helpline 104.

Police sources told Herald that the nine persons, who were a part of the congregation at Delhi from March 6-10, have not shown any symptoms of COVID-19, but as a safety precaution they have been handed over to the doctors.

“They will be tested and monitored by the doctors. They have not shown symptoms of the infection so far but all measures are being taken to ensure their safety and of the public at large,” an officer said.

It is learnt that police have also begun a massive hunt to look out for more individuals who returned from the gathering.

On Wednesday, DHS Director Dr Jose D’Sa made an appeal stating, “If there is anyone from Goa who attended the Markaz religious congregation of Tablighi at Nizamuddin in Delhi, they must immediately contact the Health Department in the interest of their own and public health.”
