SIOLIM: An inordinate delay in performing surgery on   90-year-old Parvati Mandrekar from Guirim, Mapusa has raised queries about systemic delays at the GMC and the quality of care and insensitivity towards public at the Goa Medical College.

The nonagerian had a fracture after a fall and had to undergo surgery but her operation has been cancelled at the last minute on three occasions.  The doctors have stated that shortage of beds at the ICU wards is the main reason behind multiple postponements.

The patient belongs to the Orthopaedic ward and the family has pleaded that the surgery be performed at the earliest as the elderly woman is going through excruciating pain for the last 10 days.

The next appointment has been slated for coming Tuesday but they have received the final confirmation.
