PANJIM: As many as 98,254 children below the age of five years were administered polio vaccine dose as part of the nationwide pulse polio immunisation programme on Sunday.
In Goa, the pulse polio immunisation programme was held at 667 health centres/booths across the State. The Directorate of Health Services had also set up booths at every bus stand and had set a target to enroll nearly 1.05 lakh children during the day-long programme.
“Our team visits every bus that comes at the bus stand and enquires with the passengers if the polio dose is given to a child below five years of age,” informed Kush Naik, an immunisation officer who was sitting at the polio booth at Marcela Bus Stand.
The booths had been set up at several locations across the State so as to ensure 100 per cent immunisation of children, Naik said.
According to Urban Health Centre (UHC), Panjim medical officer Dr Manisha Kamat, a total of 20 booths of pulse polio were set up all over Panjim. Those who missed the dose will be given the same during the house-to-house visit beginning from Monday, she added.
Dr Kamat said that medical staff will visit door-to-door to give pulse polio dose to the children below the age of five years, who had missed the two drops of polio dose on Sunday. “We want to ensure that no child is left unimmunised and the full immunisation is completed,” she said.
