MORJIM: The Pernem Police on Sunday booked a tourist from Kolhapur for driving his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner on Morjim Beach.
The video of the incident, which went viral on social media, shows the Maharashtra registered vehicle stuck in the sand on Morjim beach.
Pernem Police have booked 32-year-old Sagar Bapu Savaratkar, a resident of Kolhapur under Sections 279 and 336 of IPC for driving his vehicle in a rash and negligent manner thereby endangering human life on the beach.
Further investigation is in progress with head constable Chandrakant Naik.
In the past incidents of rash and negligent driving by tourists on the beaches of Goa have been reported.
It may be recalled that last year in September, Pernem Police arrested 25-year-old domestic tourist Gourav Bishwad for allegedly driving a rented car in a rash and negligent manner on Morjim Beach.
The video, which went viral on social media, showed a rented car in the waters at Morjim Beach.
DySP Jivba Dalvi said they received information about a tourist driving a rented car on Morjim beach thereby risking the lives of the public.
The police said they arrested the tourist, who was intentionally driving the said car on the beach, and registered an offense under Sections 279 and 336 of the IPC. The police later took the vehicle into custody.
