A day after CM’s address, Oppn talks on COVID management

PANJIM: A day after Chief Minister Pramod Sawant addressed the State via Facebook, Leader of the Opposition Digambar Kamat decided to address the State at the same time and on the same COVID management issue.

He spoke on the same issues Sawant spoke about, COVID management and the two-year tenure of the government under Sawant.

“As Leader of Opposition, I have always done my duty to raise the concerns of people of Goa. It is unfortunate that the BJP government never listened to the voice of the people. Today, Goa is under financial emergency and in the trap of COVID-19@INCGoa,” Kamat had tweeted before going ‘live’ on Facebook, on Sunday.

The Margao Congress MLA termed his address as the ‘other side of the story’.

“The irresponsible and insensitive BJP government has imposed a financial emergency in the State by emptying the State coffers and has now pushed the Goans into the COVID trap,” said the former Chief Minister.

“Chief Minister Pramod Sawant must stop giving false promises and should ‘walk the talk’ with regards to the action taken by the government on various constructive suggestions made to the government,” Kamat added.

He further said that Chief Minister Sawant actually read out the failures of his government in his 30-minute speech, on Saturday.

“His speech was clear cut admission that the BJP government had not done anything beyond making announcements and giving assurances. The Chief Minister could not speak about a single action plan initiated by the government,” he added

“The apathy of the government has come to the fore with the Chief Minister now announcing to set up two liquid medical oxygen plants at Bambolim. The government has woken up almost after a year since the COVID pandemic started in India,” Kamat added.

He then criticised the State government for not listening to the suggestion of Opposition of announcing an “Economic Revival Plan” with Rs 100 crore package to the marginalised sector.

“The State government failed to implement the Goenche Daiz Scheme which would have helped the traditional occupations of Goa,” Kamat added.
