PONDA: With as many as seven Lok Sabha candidates hailing from Ponda taluka, it was a mixed feeling in the taluka as victorious candidates celebrated their success, while losing candidates were gracious in defeat.
Winning BJP candidate Narendra Savoikar along with his wife and MGP-BJP supporters visited the Ganesh temple to thank the gods for his victory.
Later speaking to reporters, Savoikar pledged to bring about the development of South Goa. “I thank the voters of South Goa for strengthening Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi in helping BJP form the government at the centre,” he said.
Workers from Marcaim, Shiroda and Priol took part in a victory rally from Farmagudi to celebrate the victory of Adv Savoikar and Shirpad, both candidates hailing from Ponda taluka.
The losing Congress candidate, Ravi Naik, was gracious in defeat. “Having sportsmanship qualities is always important in life. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. So, the losing candidates should not get unduly perturbed on their defeat,” said Naik.
Losing independent candidate, Govind Gaude, also ruled out disappointment over his defeat.
“In life and in politics, it is necessary to fight for the right cause with certain goals and I will always continue this fighting spirit in life.”
“Since people have given them the verdict, the BJP should fulfil all aspirations of the people and should fulfil their manifesto which they promised to the Goans,” said Gaude.
Other candidates from Ponda taluka that lost were also sporting in their defeat and claimed that it was important to participate in elections in a democratic country.
