“Yet, Goa’s Education Department is enforcing Aadhaar registration for all students specially the primary students,” said NCCF secretary Joseph Vaz.
“Despite a clear direction from the Supreme Court and statement from the Narendra Modi-led union government for not making Aadhaar mandatory, the school managements are openly flouting both,” added Vaz.
NCCF has received complaints from parents of students studying in Navelim and Margao schools and have decided to take up the matter with the Education department.
NCCF referred to the written reply in the Lok Sabha last month by Planning Minister Rao Inderjit Singh who had said that the government was not considering any proposal to make it mandatory for citizens to get Aadhaar card issued by the UIDAI.
“Earlier too in March 2014, the Supreme Court directed the union government to withdraw all orders making Aadhaar or the unique identification (UID) number mandatory for residents,” said Vaz.
“With the school managements under directions from the Education department openly flouting directions of the Supreme Court, it is high time the apex court take suo moto action against those responsible, be it the education minister or schools,” he said
