VASCO: Is it a “Class” Act? Time will say. But the state Education Department has set September 20, 2017, as the deadline for all schools in Goa to ensure that their students either have an Aadhaar Card or have enrolled for the same.
The Director of Education Gajanan P Bhat on Thursday said till date, 94 per cent students acroos the state, have enrolled for the crucial document.
Bhat was speaking to reporters after holding a special meeting with grant-in-aid institutions from Mormugao Taluka at St Andrews Church Hall in Vasco on Thursday. The meeting was called to take stock of current status of students’ enrolment for Aadhaar in different schools of the taluka and also the grievances of the schools.
“We have made Aadhaar mandatory for all schoolkids in Goa mainly to avail various schemes like mid-day meals, scholarships etc. In today’s
meeting we have issued a deadline of September 20 for the students to either possess an Aadhaar or they must at least have applied for the same. I am sure that all schools would give 100 per cent compliance report within the deadline” Bhat said.
Meanwhile, asked why the Education Department has not undertaken repair of government schools, he said, “Please give me details of the schools and I will them and take necessary action.
“With regards to the government school Mangoor hill and few other schools in Mormugao, we have already asked the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) to undertake repairs of the school buildings.
“Also it has been recently decided that GSIDC will depute an officer at all ADEI offices across Goa and the main responsibility of this officer will be to look after the repairs and construction of schools in respective talukas,” he said.
Commenting on the delay in installing CCTVs in various grant-in-aid institutions across Goa, Bhat said “Child safety and security beside quality education is our top-most priority. We have formulated a special scheme under which the education department will give financial assistance of Rs 400 per student per month to the schools. This grant is basically to promote regional language, however, the school can utilize the money for installation of CCTVs in the schools,” he said.
