MARGAO: While expressing regrets that the drug menace has afflicted Goan villages, Aam Aadmi Party applauded the villagers of Durga and Chinchinim for taking up this issue with the police and demanding action against the drug peddlers in the village.
AAP leader Ramiro Mascarenhas said the fact that presence of drugs in remote villages reflects on the lack of governance and administration in the State as earlier they were found only in the coastal belt that was visited by tourists.
While applauding the villagers for their courage to march to the police station over the issue, Ramiro urged the police to act against the menace without any fear especially from the politicians and added that politicians most often derail investigations in drug cases.
He lamented that while the Indian economy has slowed down under the BJP regime it is indeed quite surprising that the drug trade is booming and has now expanded its base to remote villages.
