The health facilities, including those at the Community Health Centre (CHC) have been in a bad state for many years. AAP members had recently held a three-day hunger strike to highlight the same, but no official, including Tawadkar, made any attempt to resolve the matter.
“When we approached Tawadkar’s residence, he said he had called the police and asked us to leave as we were a threat to him,” said AAP activist Ravi Komarpant.
Incidentally, an AAP activist at the hunger strike had said, “If I have to beat somebody in benefit of all Canacona residents, I will not give it a second thought.”
Canacona AAP activist Sandesh Telekar pointed out that Tawadkar used to raise the issue when he was in the opposition, but since the last three years, he had turned a blind eye and left thousands of Canacona locals to suffer.
AAP’s Canacona unit condemned Tawadkar’s act and warned of a morcha at his residence on June 19 if he failed to meet them before then.
AAP and Canacona locals have constantly been demanding better health-care facilities, including another 108 ambulance and appointment of doctors and technicians at the CHC
Tawadkar was unavailable when we tried to contact him by phone.
