In May, when students were enjoying their summer vacation, 676 teachers of Konkani and Marathi medium government primary schools from across four talukas – Pernem, Bardez, Bicholim and Sattari – underwent a week-long workshop on different educational innovations and learning styles.
Goa Education Development Corporation (GEDC) Chairman Kanta Patnekar told Herald the workshop comprised 40 sessions including ‘teaching correct grammar’.
“Introducing puppetry as an aid to education such as preparing educational scripts and programmes for teaching curriculum subjects through puppetry will appeal to students. Moreover, teaching can be in dramatic style and with music too. The teachers were also trained in voice modulation and improving their handwriting,” he said, explaining these factors will help students remain focused and attentive.
The positive impact, he said, will in turn show up in their results. “With such creativity included in the curriculum, a student will not have learning problems,” he said.
A total of 95 resource persons were invited to conduct different sessions through the week.
Patnekar said a similar workshop will be held for primary teachers in other talukas during the Diwali vacation. Introduced this year, the education department now intends to conduct it annually. The workshop is likely to be extended for aided-primary school teachers in the near future.
