PANJIM: Terming the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) as anti-Goan, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday in a protest condemned statements made by senior Congress leader Pratapsingh Rane against Goans who work abroad. AAP also demanded that Rane apologise and resign as MLA.
Speaking in the Assembly last week, Rane had said that Goans who work abroad do toilet cleaning jobs.
“We are with the Goans and will forever be with the Goans be it in Goa or in Europe. The time has come for new thinking. The Congress which ruled Goa for many years failed to maintain the economic status of Goa and that is the reason these people had to go abroad in search of jobs,” AAP leader Elvis Gomes said speaking to the media during the protest.
He said, “I want to tell those Goans who are abroad that AAP will always be with them. AAP is committed to the common man’s welfare. Congress is responsible for this mess and on top of this they make such statements against our Goans.”
Another AAP member termed the Congress as an anti-Goan party and demanded that Rane resign as MLA. “The Congress in their draft regional plan has shown all the sources from which the State receives money but nowhere have they shown foreign remittances. Rane should resign as MLA. We condemn such statements made against our Goans,” Sunil Signapurkar said.
AAP further said that Goans were getting paid back with such humiliation for trusting Congress too long and called upon Goans to condemn Rane’s utterances.
“Congress policies under Pratapsingh Rane for years without end have resulted in a situation of terrible unemployment and people have gone abroad to escape from poverty. These leaders with a feudal mindset never wanted the common man to rise on the social ladder,” AAP said.
