VASCO: The Coast Guard has assured all the help to the Fisheries Department to keep a strict vigil on LED fishing in territorial waters. The Secretary Fishing has earlier communicated the same to the Coast Guard which has been followed up by the assurance by Coast Guard of keeping a strict vigil on any kind of violations.
The Deputy Inspector General of Coast Guard, Goa, Himanshu Nautiyal was interacting with the media on his appointment as head of Goa district.
It may be recalled that the MP South Narendra Sawaikar and Fisheries Minister Vinod Palienkar, had discussions with the Union commerce minister as well as the Central agricultural minister regarding the effective implementation of order banning use of LED for fishing.
DIG Coast Guard Himanshu said that the Coast Guard has informed the Secretary Fishing that they have issued written instructions to all the ships of Coast Guard to track use of banned LED fishing in the Indian territorial waters and note down the details of the erring vessels.
“We have given written instructions to our ships to take the details of the erring fishing vessels which we will further pass on to the Fisheries Department here in Goa to initiate action,” he said.
The DIG Himanshu also reassured that all the practices that are banned and non-permissible would be checked and informed to the Fisheries Department.
The DIG also said that they have already begun their checking of the fishing vessels.
Coast Guard also informed that they have come across several fishing vessels having sailors without any identity proof while in deep sea and said that safety of fishermen at sea and coastal security is of paramount importance for them.
The Coast Guard DIG Nautiyal also said that he would inform the fisheries department regarding the identity cards as it is important for security.
