AAP delegation apprises Guv on Bhumiputra, Mining Corp Bills

PANJIM: The Aam Aadmi Party delegation on Tuesday met Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai and apprised about the misgovernance of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant “sarkar”.

Delegation led by AAP Goa Convenor Rahul Mhambre briefed the Governor on the important Monsoon Session, which is usually held for 3-4 weeks, was curtailed to just three days. In this short time, number of Bills including important legislation such as Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill 2021, were pushed through in a hurried manner without any discussion or debate.

The delegation also shared with the governor the State of misgovernance in Goa caused by the “Sawant sarkar” and highlighted issues faced by students, women and mining dependents in the State.

“The way the Bhumiputra Adhikarni Bill was forced in the Assembly is a murder of democracy,” he said.

“No conversation or consultation was done with the stakeholders. The Chief Minister curtailed the Assembly session by using COVID-19 pandemic as an excuse, but never thought of COVID when he took out a massive rally in Sanquelim. By passing a Bill without any consultation the Chief Minister has murdered the democracy,” he added.

Mhambre also highlighted to the Governor the fact that last week the State witnessed three rapes in the matter of seven days. The party also informed that the government has not announced any aid to the victims nor made any reassurance for the same. Instead of reassuring women of Goa of their safety, the Chief Minister instead was indulging in allegedly blaming the minor victims and their parents.

The AAP appealed to the Governor to remind the Chief Minister, who also happens to be the Home Minister, of his Constitutional duty to provide safety and security to all. The party requested the Governor’s intervention to see that the Goa State Women’s Commission is revitalised.

Meanwhile, the only reason the BJP has passed the Bhumiputra Bill because it knows that it will lose the upcoming Assembly elections. This Bill purposely ignores Goenkars and their rights and is a pure election gimmick by the BJP.
