MARGAO: Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Tuesday filed a counter-complaint against BJP Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa, his wife Freda D’Sa, and other supporters with regard to the alleged attack on their volunteers on two occasions, at Nuvem.

AAP State Vice-President Adv Pratima Coutinho, along with Cecille Rodrigues, Captain Vienzy Viegas, Surel Tilve, and other leaders filed a complaint at the Maina-Curtorim Police Station.

The party stated that their volunteers had gone to the office of the Nuvem legislator to hand over a cake to him as a part of their State-level programme of greeting the 10 former Congress MLAs who defected to the BJP two years ago.

“Before we approached the MLA office, his supporters halted us in the middle of the public road, thereby forcibly not allowing them to meet the MLA even though he is a public servant. The supporters of MLA indulged in heckling, used abusive language, passed derogatory remarks, threw cake pieces, eggs, and tomatoes on the AAP volunteers,” the complaint stated.

AAP further claimed that on July 12, the same act of violence by the MLA supporters was repeated and which was instigated by the MLA and his wife.

Adv Pratima in her complaint stated that the magistrate has also shown a partisan attitude by not registering an FIR against MLA, his wife, and their violent supporters.

Valmiki Naik and Captain Viegas said that the violence was a direct result of the frustration of the BJP, which made them realise that AAP cannot be cowed down like other Opposition parties.

Valmiki stated, “The BJP is used to weak and pliable opposition parties such as Congress, and hence reacts violently when faced with a party like AAP which can neither be outdone in governance, nor can its MLAs be purchased, nor can it be threatened into submission.”
