AAP leaders hold hunger strike in support of Kejriwal at Panjim

PANJIM: As as part of nationwide protest against arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Admi Party (AAP) Goa leaders supported by INDIA Bloc party members held a day-long hunger strike at Azad Maidan in Panjim on Sunday. INDIA Alliance candidates for both North and South Goa Lok Sabha constituencies, Adv Ramakant Khalap and Capt Viriato Fernandes participated in the protest along with other AAP and Congress leaders.

Speaking to reporters, AAP Goa Convenor Amit Palekar said, “We are holding the protest to show how the BJP is killing democracy in the country by illegally putting the opposition leaders in  prison. BJP is even making sure that the opposition leaders are harassed during election campaign. It appears that code of conduct is only for the opposition parties.”

AAP leader Surel Tilve said the entire country has seen how Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate.

“This attempt of the BJP to frighten the opposition parties indicates that BJP is in fear. The top leaders of the opposition parties are being sent to prison just to silence their voice. We are holding this token strike to show that we are not afraid of anyone. We are with Arvind Kejriwal and our blessings will be with him forever. Our other leaders like Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Kumar Jain too have been sent in prison in connection with the same case but we are confident that all the leaders will walk free,” he said.  The AAP leaders were also joined by INDIA Bloc leaders Ramakant Khalap, Viriato Fernandes and Amit Patkar, among others.
