AAP provide support to protesting Mopa locals

PANJIM: The Aam Aadmi Party slammed the State government for allegedly arresting the Mopa locals, even the senior citizens, who were protesting peacefully to protect their land, by the police force, on Friday.

“The AAP condemns this dictatorial attitude and mindset of the government to arrest the people who are peacefully protesting for their rights. The party will stand with the people of Mopa until justice is provided on this land acquisition issue at the earliest,” said AAP Goa Convenor Rahul Mhambre.

Mopa and Pernem locals have been protesting peacefully for over a couple of months now against the acquisition of their land for link road purpose. The land acquisition will lead to destruction of houses and farmland, who have been tilling their land for livelihood for many years.

“The high handedness and use of machineries which was seen in Melauli, the same force is used by the government to suppress the voice of the Mopa locals who were peacefully protesting to protect their land,” said AAP leaders Adv Prasad Shahapurkar and Pundalik Dhargalkar.

Adv Prasad and Dhargalkar along with Mhambre visited the Mapusa Police Station and enquired about the arrest.

“No charges have been registered as yet,” the police informed at the police station.

Adv Prasad said that he will be assisting the people arrested on the legal aspects of bail and also promised party’s support to the people protesting for their rights.

He criticised Dr Pramod Sawant-led government for having big dreams for making Goa Swayampurna and on the other hand all set to destroy the people, who are already Swayampurna and Atmanirbhar.

Mhambre also criticised the Chief Minister for distributing Krishi Cards to the people of Pernem.

“What is the use of Krishi Cards when the government is grabbing the land on the direction of crony capitalists,” questioned Mhambre.

“Sawant’s mentions of reaching out to the last person in the State and his dream of leading Goa on the lines of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Swayampurna seems to have failed to resolve the problems of the Goans. Is the government really serious about the move towards making Goa Swayampura or is he really interested in following the High Command order to protect his seat and power,” Mhambre alleged.
