MARGAO: Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro, who has started repairing roads and even getting them hotmixed in his constituency, gets 15-day ultimatum from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday to repair the Nagmodem road. AAP warns Falerio of launching a campaign to relieve Nagmodem of all its problems, if the latter fails the deadline.
Briefing the media, Pratima Coutinho, who joined AAP after her defeat as the Congress candidate from Navelim in the Zilla Panchayat elections, said the condition of the road at Nagmodem was pathetic and caused many accidents and insisted that it needs to mend immediately.
Earlier, Cruz Rodrigues, a farmer, who used to cultivate the field next to Saipem Lake lamented that for the last 15 years the fields are lying fallow because the sewerage leakage from Margao into the fields have left it uncultivable.
“It is unfortunate that our MLAs, some of whom even became ministers, did nothing to solve this problem of Margao sewage that’s destroying our fields,” he said while pointing out that many people who were working abroad want to cultivate the fields now but cannot do so due to its arid condition.
“We do not need tractors and other machinery what we need is cultivable fields which the government has to provide us as it is its policies that have made our fields uncultivable,” he said.
Pratima while agreeing with the problem also lamented that Nagmodem area has become a dumping ground with people throwing their garbage all over the place while AAP candidate for the ZP elections Matilda D’Silva lamented that even dead animals are being dumped in the area.
Pratima demanded that Cipru who has been elected for the third term as ZP member from the area should use his ZP funds to clean up Nagmodem area and gave Luizinho Faleiro 15 days ultimatum to attend to the problem failing which she said they will launch a “Save Saipem Lake Movement”.
