AAP Seafarers’ Cell requests amendment to travel advisory

MARGAO: The Aam Aadmi Party Seafarers’ Cell has written to the Central Government requesting amendment to the latest precautionary consolidated travel advisory issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for arranging disembarkation ports for the seafarers of India who are in distress during their voyage.

The 11th March 2020 advisory has created an undue distress among the seafarers all over India.

The AAP Seafarers Cell said the seafarers are denied transit to sign off and this is creating undue stress not only onboard the vessels but also at their homes.

“All Asian countries including Korea, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Iran etc, have stated that they will not accept transit seaman”, informed Venzy Viegas of AAP.

The cell has requested the Central government to open one port each on the west and east coasts of India.AAP requested that no port call charges be made applicable for this activity, only normal crew change charges be applicable to vessel owners/managers. The above should come as an amendment to the circular issued on March 11, 2020 without further delay.
