PANJIM: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa delegation led by Goa unit convenor Amit Palekar met Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, seeking his intervention into the deteriorating law and order situation in the State. The party has urged the Governor to take decisive and swift action to restore law and order in the state.
A memorandum submitted by the delegation said, “The recent increase in criminal activities, including threats, trespass, assault, and other forms of violence, is causing significant distress among residents and visitors alike.”
“We are well aware about the incident of demolition of the house of a local Goan at Assagao, the method used and the active involvement of police machinery with political and higher level officers in the incident. The same has brought a sense of fear in locals. The trespass, act of kidnapping and illegal demolition of the house was done with active connivance of police machinery,” he said.
“A similar incident had happened at Caranzalem within the jurisdiction of Panjim Police Station wherein similarly in the wee hours of the night by using bouncers and police machinery, a house wherein a local person resided with his wife, minor child and infant, was demolished overnight. This has exposed the Goa Police machinery, which is shocking, as incidents were carried out under the protection of the police working with goons,” the memorandum said.
“This shows that there is a complete breakdown of law and other police machinery in Goa and the Home Minister has either no control or turned a blind eye towards the same for obvious reasons. Accusations and counter accusations between various levels such as PI, DGP and Home Minister are unprecedented and a sign of complete breakdown. Silence of the Chief Minister is alarming. This shows indiscipline and politicisation in the police force which is dangerous for the State’s security and public order,” the memorandum said.
AAP MLAs Venzy Viegas and Cruz Silva, Valmiki Naik and Adv Surel Tilve were also part of the delegation.
