PANJIM: Expressing confidence that Aam Admi Party would win in North and South Goa judging from the response they got from the electorate in both constituencies, AAP’s South Goa candidate Swati Kaerkar said that if their party wins then it would benefit the common people.
“Both parties are corrupt and both parties are communal. Today both are also scared of AAP so they are attacking us,” Kerkar told media while addressing a press conference along with her colleague Dr Dattaram Desai, bringing down the curtains on the campaign for the Lok Sabha.
Dr Oscar Rebello likening AAP as a small tree and people as water, said that once the party grew big it would give shade to the people who nurtured it and they would benefit from its fruits.
He also marveled at the fact that even though the Election Commission’s canvassing spending limit was Rs 54 lakh per constituency, AAP candidates had only spent Rs 7 lakh each.
“We could not even spend Rs 10 lakh each. It is a mystery on why others have to spend so much money,” Dr Rebello wondered.
Kerkar also told media that even after the elections they would raise issues that people face, village by village.
AAP said that it would like to put on record it appreciation to the people for having welcomed them in their homes and their hearts during their extensive campaign throughout Goa. “ We earnestly tried to reach out to the maximum number of voters and regret that we couldn’t meet everyone personally due to paucity of time and resources,’ Dr Dessai the North Goa said.
Stating that even though for the first time, voters will have the option of a “NOTA” button on the EVM, AAP said that it was convinced that after our many interactions with concerned citizens across the state, it felt that they were the real alternative to the mainstream political parties that have subjected people to mal-governance and systemic corruption all these decades.
AAP also alleged that both major political parties are taking two different positions on Mopa even as it alleged that the Congress candidate Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco had backed a resolution supporting Mopa when he was a Zilla Parishad member.
