PANJIM: Independent candidate Adv Dayanand Narvekar contesting the North Goa Lok Sabha seat on the Kite symbol, said he has received overwhelming support all through North Goa during his campaign.
He said that over the last one month he has visited every village in the constituency and held door-to-door campaigns, corner meetings and listened to people’s grievances. He said, “They are just glad that someone is giving them a patient hearing and that someone understands their pain and suffering. My manifesto is not a manifesto per say, but a wish list of the People of Goa.”
“In 2008 as President of the Estimates Committee I was the first person to expose what was going on in the mining industry in the State. The present situation is far worse than what I had predicted. The current State government promised to bring to justice all the big wigs behind the mining scam but still the main mastermind remains free. The e-auctioning of ore that has been started is a travesty of justice, an insult to the people of Goa who continue to struggle to meet every day needs. The wealth of Goa has been looted by a vested few,” he said.
The BJP had promised great things when in the opposition, one of them being going after the drug Czars in Goa and putting a stop to the drug trade. Nothing has been done after they came to power. Former Congress home minister Ravi Naik who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections has not even been questioned by the police in connections to the Drug trade. Naik’s involvement in drug nexus and his son’s involvement with the drug peddlers is beyond doubt. This is only possible if there is a deal,” says Adv Narvekar. “This is what I call collusion in politics and it’s a cancer affecting politics. Today because of tainted politicians, the common man sees politics as a dirty profession.”
The Congress Party by giving a ticket to Ravi Naik has gone down to a new low. It shows the dearth of good leaders in the party today. The Congress is finished not only in Goa but in India. “If the Party manages to reach a figure of 90 seats nationwide if will be nothing short of a miracle.”
Commenting further he said “Special Status for Goa should have been demanded long back. Now the time has come to stop playing politics over the issue because the reality is if we don’t get special status we will lose not only our lands and our identity but ourselves. Goemkarponn will be extinct in the next two generations.”
Politics is also played over Mopa airport. Both the BJP and the Congress who had backed the Mopa airport vociferously are now trying to avoid talking about it. A divide is being created in the minds of the people by putting North against South. This has to stop. The fact is Mopa is a necessity and shall be a reality if I get elected,” he said
My symbol the Kite signifies my promise to soar above petty and divisive politics of today, which reek of corruption, communalism and collusion and I promise to aim high to deliver good governance, inclusiveness and a quality of life that we Goans have always deserved.
