AAP wishes turncoats with cake on defection anniversary

PANJIM: Terming July 10 as a “black day” in the history of Goan politics, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), in an unique political campaign on Saturday launched the second phase of ‘Lets Clean Goan Politics’ by offering cakes to ruling MLAs who had defected to the BJP in 2019.

Addressing media persons, AAP national spokesperson Atishi alleged that the Congress sold Goan votes and that the BJP stole them.

“July 10, 2019 is a black day for Goan democracy. Today it marks the second anniversary when ten MLAs left Congress and joined BJP for power. Congress sold the mandate to BJP and the people of Goa till date remember their betrayal,” she said.

She further said that “This similar demonstration of the blatant imbalance of power that BJP attempts to hold over their rival party members has been observed in other States around India, including the national capital, Delhi. On multiple occasions, BJP members have harassed and put pressure on AAP MLAs to BJP, but we have held strong”.

Atishi said that people have realised that voting for Congress is equivalent to voting for BJP.

AAP leaders visited the residences of all ten defected MLAs with a chocolate cake with icing depicting the Congress symbol, ‘hand’, holding the BJP symbol, ‘lotus’.

Atishi said that the people of Goa demand a change and their efforts have not paid off.

“At AAP, we started a Lets Clean Goan Politics campaign to raise awareness about the betrayal and to work towards ending the legacy of corruption. With over 70,000 pledges made in the past 10 days, we want to end the power play and clean up Goan politics for the citizens of Goa and their future generations,” she said.
