PANJIM: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said all AAP candidates have signed an affidavit promising they won’t defect to another party after winning elections.
“All our candidates have signed an affidavit today. Under this all our candidates have promised that when they win, they will work with utmost honesty, will not take any bribes or indulge in corruption and they will not leave the Aam Aadmi Party to join any other political party,” said Kejriwal.
“In the past few elections we have witnessed how MLAs were bought by BJP after winning from parties. Joining another party after elections is not merely a breach of trust you are also selling the votes people gave you to another party,” added Kejriwal.
He claimed that AAP has handpicked candidates for Goa. He said everyone is free to investigate their history.
“Public doesn’t easily believe that a government can function with honesty. AAP will distribute signed copies of this affidavit to earn the public’s trust. Copies of this affidavit will be sent to each household in Goa by AAP candidates. This affidavit is an assurance to the people that if the candidate falters, and is dishonest in their work, they can file a case against the candidate,” said Kejriwal. Goa CM candidate Amit Palekar administered the oath to all candidates.
Kejriwal further said that there are two major problems in the way Goa has been governed—one, there is flagrant corruption and second is defection. “Goa’s government is one of the richest State governments in the country. Despite this, the people of Goa are deprived of basic amenities. The list of public grievances is endless because all the money goes into the pockets of politicians; gets stolen from the people of Goa,” said Kejriwal.
“No matter in which party’s ticket a leader contests from, they immediately switch parties after winning. In the past few elections we have witnessed politicians contesting from other parties and defecting to BJP after winning. This is pure cheating and voters are being betrayed because the politicians earn their votes in the name of a party in which the public places its trust and then by switching parties, they sell the votes of the people” he added.
