CURCHOREM: Local residents of Curchorem have complained against the abandoned portions of electricity poles pieces in the cemented muffing lying abandoned along the main road near Curchorem market, posing threat to the safety of commuters.
At many places in the Curchorem market, one can see portions of iron poles in the cemented muffing on the road side, posing serious safety threat to the motorists as sometimes their vehicles move over it.
“Due to various civic works, particularly the ongoing work of laying pipeline for Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) between the roads, most of the vehicle are forced to go off the road and therefore there are more chances of vehicles going over these iron pieces, thereby not only causing damage to the tyres but also increasing chances of accidents,” said a motorist, demanding the removal of these iron pieces immediately.
A motorcycle pilot said that it is more dangerous for two wheelers and pedestrians than the four wheelers as many times they have to take their motorcycles over them.
“Many times I lost control over my motorcycle. Luckily, I managed to keep the balance and hence did not fall. But, I may not be lucky every time, as the chances of falling are always very high due to the heavy vehicular traffic,” the motorcycle pilot said.
According to him, it is equally dangerous for pedestrians because anybody can trip over these iron pieces while walking, particularly at night. The authorities are least bothered. They won’t wake up until something untoward happens,” he said.
When the issue was brought to the notice of the Curchorem Electricity Engineer Subhash Dessai, he immediately called the contractor who had removed the poles and directed him to remove the abandoned iron pieces along with its muffing immediately.
