PONDA: The Curti-Khandepar gram sabha on Sunday unanimously passed a resolution demanding abolition of labour contractor system and urged the industrial units to recruit contract workers directly.
The resolution copies will be submitted to the concerned department and industrial units located within the panchayat jurisdiction.
“Apart from low wages, villagers have brought to the notice of the panchayat, various problems faced by contract workers. The issue was discussed at the gram sabha and a unanimous resolution was passed. We will request industrial units in our panchayat area to directly recruit contract workers,” said Deputy Sarpanch Nagesh Naik.
The gram sabha also passed a resolution to ban use of plastic carry bags and impose fine on shopkeepers, if found using plastic carry bags.
“It was a public demand to ban plastic carry bags. We will conduct surprise checks at shops and shopkeepers will be fined if found violating the ban. We also plan to take action if public is found disposing garbage in the open. We sincerely request people not to throw garbage in haphazard manner,” informed Naik.
It was decided also to impose fees on rented premises. Based on the resolution passed during the gram sabha, the panchayat decided to collect one month’s rent from the owners on a yearly basis and expects revenue generation of about Rs 1 crore.
“Owners of the rented premises will have to pay one month’s rent as fees to the panchayat and such a provision is also there under the Panchayati Raj Act. We expect to collect about Rs 1 crore revenue annually and the funds will be utilised for developmental activities in the panchayat jurisdiction,” added Naik.
The villagers during the gram sabha brought to the notice of the panchayat members the disposal of garbage in a private property at Curti. The panchayat assured to conduct an inspection and take an action.
A decision was also taken to construct a village library and a gym in an open space identified by the panchayat.
