PANJIM: The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) told the Special Investigation Team (SIT) at the Crime Branch, to take appropriate action on the complaint filed by Adv Aires Rodrigues against Mandrem MLA and Chairman of Goa Housing Board Jit Arolkar, alleging tax fraud.
In the complaint filed on behalf of Mapusa-based 77-year-old Rawloo Vaikunth Khalap, currently residing in California, Adv Rodrigues had given the ACB details of the land scam that Arolkar was allegedly involved in by illegally grabbing land admeasuring 1.48 lakh square metres at Dhargalim in Pernem Taluka, of which Khalap is a co-owner.
Adv Rodrigues in his complaint dated December 2, 2022, had urged the ACB to investigate the complaint in accordance with law despite Arolkar being politically well connected as an MLA supporting the ruling government.
In November last year, the Economic Offences Cell (EOC) had transferred an FIR registered against Arolkar to the SIT, Ribandar. The FIR was first registered by the Pernem police in 2020.
Meanwhile, the Mandrem MLA has approached the High Court of Bombay at Goa, seeking to quash the FIR registered against him, wherein, the SIT is learnt to have filed the status report of the investigations. The Court has posted the matter for further hearing on February 27.
