PANJIM: The Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) has confirmed that there are irregularities in the tendering of electrical wiring works at the Police Training School (PTS). ACB officials said that the inquiry into the irregularities is in progress and that all the files and documents have been seized by ACB.
“At this juncture we cannot reveal anything but yes, there are irregularities that have been found after scrutinizing the PTS files,” an ACB officer said.
This comes after the departmental inquiry by Deputy Inspector General of Police V Renganathan gave the Principal of PTS, SP A V Deshpande, a clean chit in the tendering of electrical work and other irregularities.
Sources said that the electrical contractor Vishwas Dhumatkar will be summoned for his deposition as he is the contractor who carried out the electrical work amounting to Rs 14 lakh on oral instructions given by SP Deshpande.
An ACB officer also said that SP Deshpande and vice principal of PTS Gajanan Prabhudesai are likely to be summoned soon to complete the investigation. So far, some other staff of the PTS has been grilled by ACB. These include staff members from the accounts and administration departments.
Herald had reported last month on the scam in the PTS bringing to the fore the alleged illegalities by SP Deshpande, who is an IPS officer and was recently honoured with the President’s Medal. The report showed how SP Deshpande had awarded electrical wiring work tenders at PTS without following proper procedures.
