PANJIM: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Directorate of Vigilance filed the chargesheet before District and Sessions Court, Margao, in the 2014 corruption case against the then Sancoale Panchayat Sarpanch Ramakant Borkar.
On July 18, 2014, Munnalal Halwai had lodged a complaint with the ACB against Borkar alleging that the later had demanded Rs one lakh, which was subsequently reduced to Rs 75,000, for issuing occupancy certificate to the residential bungalow constructed by the father of the former at Sancoale.
A case was registered under section 7. 13(1)(d) read with 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Acting upon the complaint, the officials of the ACB laid a trap and Borkar was caught red-handed after allegedly having received the bribe amount of Rs 75,000. He was arrested near Sancoale Church where he had agreed to meet the complainant to receive the bribe amount.
On completion of the investigation, the chargesheet was filed on May 27, 2024, before the District and Sessions Court (Special Judge) South Goa at Margao.
