Shetye, who is presently holding charge as Tiswadi deputy collector was interrogated by Deputy Superintendent of Police Bossuet D’Silva from 4.30 pm to 6.30 pm.
ACB is investigating gross irregularities in the office of deputy collector Mapusa when Shetye was holding charge there. The case is regarding novel ways figured out to demand bribes from locals and NRIs who applied for partition, demarcation or resurvey of properties.
Sources at ACB said that Shetye used to attach a separate sheet to the file along with a handwritten note stating ‘Please Speak’. According to sources, this meant ‘please settle with money’.
ACB is in the process of concluding the case as most of the crucial evidence is in its possession as well as statements of the other staff of the deputy collector office recorded.
In May last, ACB had raided the Bardez Deputy Collector’s office and seized almost 50 odd files. A complaint to Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, who is the Revenue Minister, by Congress leader Sunil Kawthankar had spilled the beans.
D’Souza had transferred the complaint to the chief vigilance officer for action. Following directions from the chief vigilance officer, ACB had begun the investigation.
