Mapusa witnessed yet another collision near a taxi stand that caused a significant disruption in traffic flow. On Thursday, a collision between a car and a Bharat petroleum tanker brought traffic to a standstill near a taxi stand in Mapusa. The damaged vehicles resulted from the impact of the collision. Investigations revealed that the car driver was in the wrong position, while the tanker driver claimed to have been in the correct lane. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. 

However, locals are becoming increasingly concerned about the lack of effective traffic management in the area, attributing it to frequent accidents. The issue of haphazard parking and the absence of proper facilities further aggravates the problem. Authorities are being urged to address these issues promptly to ensure the safety and convenience of both drivers and pedestrians.

Speaking to the car driver, he expressed disappointment in the lack of serious attention given by authorities to traffic management issues. He highlighted haphazard parking near the turning points as a significant risk to other road users. He also mentioned the malfunctioning CCTV cameras and the absence of traffic police in the area. The car driver further suggested that heavy vehicles should be restricted from entering the city area to reduce the occurrence of accidents.

When approached, the traffic police on site defended their efforts, stating that they work tirelessly, but people often fail to cooperate and violate traffic rules. They also mentioned the challenges faced when trying to deter illegal parking, with motorists often disregarding warnings and arguing about the lack of parking space in the market.
