PANJIM: The young girl who was knocked down by a car driven by Jonah Fernandes, son of musician Remo Fernandes, underwent plastic surgery on her at Goa Medical College on Friday. Doctors are confident of her immediate recovery.
A panel of plastic surgeons conducted the three-hour surgery on the foot that was severely injured after she was knocked down on December 1. The girl had her ankle displaced and soft tissue damaged.
“The surgery was successful. The wound has been covered with skin flap imported from the healthy part of her body. She is doing well now,” a senior doctor told Herald.
The 17-year-old had undergone an earlier surgery soon after the accident. Since the skin had been peeled off, doctors decided to conduct a plastic surgery to avoid deepening of the injury.
“If the wound remains open, it will further cause medical trouble because of which plastic surgery was mandatory,” he explained.
The girl will require a maximum of six months to recover with doctors advising her complete rest.
